Brainteaser: The Infamous Disappearing Dollar Riddle

Three guys are going to share a hotel room.  The room costs $30 per night, so each of them agrees to pay $10.  A little while later, the manager realizes that he made a mistake, and it should only have been $25, so he sends the bellhop to give the guys $5 back.  Since they can't split $5 evenly among 3 people without making change, they each just take $1 and give the bellhop a tip of $2.

So...

• Each person effectively paid $9 (since each one paid $10 and got $1 back), so all together they paid $27 (9x3=27)
• The bellhop has $2
• $27 + $2 = $29 ... but they started out with $30.
