Who is eligible to play Bible Bowl?

Anyone on grades 3-12 (2006/07 school year) is eligible to play.  Players in grades 3-5 will be on the beginner Bible Bowl team, which is a simpler program designed for younger players.  Players in grades 6-12 are eligible for upper-division Bible Bowl.

Is there a cost?

There is no fee to join the WHCC Bible Bowl team.  However, if your family travels to a tournament, you will be responsible for hotel costs.  We also ask that all Bible Bowl players participate in a few fundraisers.

How much time does it take?

Beginner Bowl players will usually need to spend at least 20 minutes a day studying.  Bible Bowl players will typically need to spend 5 hours a week studying to do well.  Commitment to study is crucial if you are going to be successful.

What will we be studying?

The text for the 2007/07 season is the "From Samuel to David" (1 Samuel - 2 Samuel 6). You will receive an official study text, which is a NIV (New International Version) translation.

When are practices?

Regular Division practices are held once a week, Sunday evenings from 5:30 - 7:00 PM.  Beginner Bible Bowl practices are Sunday mornings from 9:00 - 10:00 AM.  All practices are at West Hills Christian Church.  Coaches will also occasionally call a special practice session.  Players will be provided with a detailed schedule of events, including practice times.

When are competitions?

Most competitions are monthly “round-robins” which are typically the first Saturday of each month.  We are currently a member of the North East Ohio Bible Bowl league.  These round robins usually involve traveling one or two hours to the hosting church.  We may also go to some tournaments, including the Eastern Christian Convention tournament in Hershey, and, if you do well enough, the National Bible Bowl tournament in the summer.  Competition dates will be announced well in advance to give you plenty of time to prepare.
